Bridging provides middle school mathematics teachers with:
- Curriculum materials and software with rich opportunities for argumentation built in.
- New teaching methods and the opportunity to practice them in a collegial environment.
- New ways of establishing productive norms for argumentation, based on improvisational “games.”
A quick glance at some of our success:
In two previous Bridging projects, we developed our innovative program in a diversity of districts and showed its promise through a small-scale experiment and through student assessments. Bridging teachers supported twice as much argumentation in their classrooms as did control teachers. Students on average gained 10 out of 36 possible points on an assessment of content and argumentation.
